As part of the USEPA Brownfields Assessment grant, back in March the City of Blue Island and Delta Redevelopment Institute held a Nuts and Bolts Training Workshop to provide information about Brownfields and how they are redeveloped. Present at the training were members the Brownfields Advisory Team (BAT), who will guide work associated with this project and facilitate stakeholder involvement. The BAT is composed of staff, regional agencies, and local business owners and residents.
On Thursday June 5, 2008 from 4:00-5:30 PM in the meeting room located in the lower level of the Blue Island Public Library (2433 York Street), the City of Blue Island and Delta are holding another workshop to determine criteria that will be used to choose up to 25 priority sites that will be eligible for Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) in the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) areas that include Main Street, the South Station area and Old Western/James Street. EarthTech, the environmental engineering firm chosen by the City through an RFP process, will also be in attendance to answer any questions about the ESA process.

The planning staff of the City of Blue Island recently returned from an exciting conference in Detroit. The 2008 Brownfields Conference was a wonderful learning experience for all and the planning staff is looking forward to applying their updated Brownfields knowledge to the City of Blue Island.
