As mentioned before, the City is creating a Community Health Monitoring Program as part of the 2008 USEPA Brownfields Assessment Grant. The City is working with several organizations to create and operate this program to improve the overall well being for residents of Blue Island.
A public workshop tying redevelopment with public health will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 from 6:15 PM to 8:45 PM in the lower level of the Blue Island Public Library (2433 York Street). All are welcome to attend the workshop – the more people who attend, the more input we receive which means the more we will be able to focus on what health issues you would like to see addressed in your community. View the official workshop flyer here.
If you wish to attend, please RSVP with Mary Poulsen at (708) 396-7035.
Blue Island was pleased to hear about receiving another USEPA grant on Friday, May 8, 2009. $200,000 is awarded to the City to assist in the cleanup costs of the former landfill at 119th Street and Vincennes Avenue.
A copy of the proposal is located in the Planning Department in City Hall. Please call 708.396.7036 or email Aileen McEldowney or Nidhi Goyal if you’d like to view the proposal or have any questions regarding the project.
