Now that we have V3 Companies on board to help us carry out environmental assessment activities on Hazardous and Petroleum sites, the City is actively working to create a preliminary list of abandoned or underutilized land in and around Blue Island’s industrial district.
Currently, we are expanding our GIS database to include available information about land parcels in Blue Island, which in itself is a big project. Very soon, the City will organize a public meeting to share the preliminary brownfields identified as part of the 2008 grant and get community input on prioritizing brownfield sites around the City’s cargo area.
As always, we are on a look out to add new members to our Brownfields Advisory Team (BAT) who can help us promote the Blue Island Brownfields Initiative. To sign-up and for any further information, please contact the Community Development Department at 708-396-7036 or email Aileen McEldowney or Nidhi Goyal.

V3 Companies- City’s environmental consultant for the NE site (former City-owned landfill site by 119th and Vincennes) will be out on the site on Thursday and Friday this week (August 13-14). They will be drilling to collect soil samples for Phase II assessments.
The City will keep you updated with the testing results when they are available. The Health and Safety Plan for this work is available for review at the Community Development Department.
If you have any concerns or need further information in this matter, please email Aileen McEldowney or Nidhi Goyal or call us at 708-396-7036.
