Since 2009, the Brownfields Advisory Team has evolved to focus on a broader range of community health related issues and that has formed into the Blue Island Community Health Coalition (BICHC).

The Blue Island Community Health Coalition (BICHC) was formalized in 2011 through funding from a Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW) grant. The coalition is a collaborative of community leaders in local government, education, healthcare, social service, faith-based, non-profit who are interested in addressing the issue of community health in Blue Island. The coalition is committed to making permanent changes by encouraging policy, systems and environmental changes.

Mission: The BICHC mission is to promote through diverse collaboration, a safe, healthy and active community for all who live, work or play in Blue Island.

Focus Areas


1st Wednesday of each month from 11:30 am-1 pm
MetroSouth Medical Center12935 Gregory St, Blue Island, IL (meeting room adjacent to the cafeteria)

A free lunch, donated by the hospital, begins at 11:30 am; the meeting is between 12-1 pm. Subcommittees related to each of the focus areas also meet monthly.
